STICKING POINT

KSB 1–1 MACC PARISH ST. PETER – Division 2 – 3rd February 2018 – SLS Stadium @ Fearns

The 3–2 win in the National Christian Trophy at Ditton Athletic had been KSB’s best of the season. Despite having a decent league campaign, the form of the teams around the Streeters has meant there can be few or no slip ups between now and the end of the season. Macc Parish St Peter’s were the visitors to a cold Fearns, where KSB have a good record against the Cheshire side.

Missing a number of the side that had defeated Ditton, including Harry Pickup, Harry Lord and hat trick hero Ryan Clarke, into the squad came Matt Gosnell, Alex Marsh, Matt Aspinall, Daven Argile and Wayne Archer. KSB had a strong opening to the match, forcing a number of corners and throw ins which caused problems to the Macc defence, but couldn’t convert the chances which came their way.

The game was continuing in a tight fashion, and Marsh had to replace manager Math Pickup in midfield who was suffering with a hamstring problem. Towards the end of the half, the Streeters got their noses in front through top scorer Jonti Calter. He got on the end of a beautifully measured Sam Calvert cross to give KSB the lead at the break. Calter had to leave to make it to Turf Moor in time, and he was replaced by Daven Argile.

The second period remained a close affair, with the home side creating the odd opening, without being able to make the most of it. Marsh was close to finishing a great move but his effort was just wide. Josh Hughes thought he’d doubled the lead with a fierce strike from outside the area. Unfortunately his shot cannoned back of the post and to safety for Macc.

Archer came on for Hughes and could’ve made an instant impact with a couple of efforts. Sadly for KSB, only having a goal lead always meant Macc could come back into the game, and sure enough they did late on. A corner was only partially cleared, and then a home header landed to a MPSP player who finished beyond Gosnell.

Daven could have grabbed a late winner for the Streeters, but his shot went agonisingly wide. Two points dropped at Fearns and another draw against MPSP. KSB will travel to Macc next week to face the same opposition in the SMCCFL Cup, with the league promotion objective looking increasingly difficult.
